Baltimore, Md. - The UMBC women's basketball team (0-5, 0-0 AEC) lost to cross-town rival Towson University (4-1, 0-0 CAA), 54-42, in women's basketball action on Tuesday night at UMBC RAC Arena.  The Retrievers outscored the Tigers by three in the second half but were unable to recover from a late first-half run by the Tigers, who held a 31-16 lead at the break.

The Retrievers after trailing by 15 at half chipped away at the Tiger lead multiple times in the second half including getting the lead down to 10 on two occasions.  UMBC, however, was unable to break the deficit back into single-digits in the second half as the Tigers, fueled by a career-high 25 points from Kelly Robinson, stopped UMBC's momentum twice with three pointers by Brandi Harris at the 5:44 mark and Kelli Talbot at the 4:16 mark.

The Tigers opened the game up strong running out to a 16-5 lead before UMBC went on a 9-0 run behind freshman Sharri Rohde (Indianapolis, Ind.,/Franklin Centeral) who knocked down a trey and a jumper to lead the Retriever charge.  UMBC, trailing 16-14, was once again subdued by a Tiger three, this time coming from Lashay Rose who hit back-to-back treys to spark a 15-2 run by Towson to end the first half.

The Retrievers were led by Mariana Santos (Presidente, Brazil/Americana) with scored 11 points and Rohde with nine points.  Maria Brown (Frederick, Md./Frederick) had a career-high seven rebounds and played great defense, holding the Tigers top scoring threat Kacy O'Brien, who entered the game averaging 18.7 points per game, to a mere one point. 

The Tigers were led by Robinson's 25 points and nine by Rose who converted 3-of-6 from three-point range. 

UMBC returns to action when they host American on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. in UMBC RAC Arena.
