Credential Policy

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County issues media credentials on a case-by-case basis. Listed below are priorities designed to make efficient use of our available space and provide the best access possible to our working members of the media at our athletic events. 

The UMBC athletic communications office is responsible for administering the following policies and reserves the right to approve or deny ANY credential request. Credential requests are expected to be made no later than three days prior to the event, with the lone exception of university staff members traveling with opposing teams.

Credentialing Priorities
  • Television and radio personnel are involved in live event broadcasting of a UMBC athletic competition. 
  • Local, Regional, and National publications (Print, TV, Radio)
  • Photographers/Videographers hired by opposing programs
  • Student Publications (The Retriever Weekly, etc.)
  • Online publications covering UMBC or America East athletics
  • One-off photographers/videographers with an official online presence

Credentialing Guidelines
  • Season-long media credentials will be issued to those organizations that provide consistent coverage of UMBC Athletics.
  • All-Access credentials are issued to all UMBC Athletic Staff as needed.
  • In ALL other instances, credentials must be requested and approved on a game-to-game basis. 
  • No credentials will be issued to individuals under the age of 18. Admission to the media space is for working media only. 
  • Credentials may be issued to 
    • Online entities that are affiliated with a national or regional media organization
    • Online entities that host a website that regularly and substantially reports on UMBC athletics or the America East Conference.
  • UMBC Athletics reserves the right to deny or revoke previously issued credentials at any time.
    • Any member who is denied a credential or has their credential revoked has the right to submit a formal request for approval/reinstatement
