Women's Basketball Battles to the End, But Falls at Marshall in WNIT Second Round

Huntington, WV -- Jade Tillman became the sixth player in program history to score 500 points in a season, but the UMBC Women's Basketball team had a late rally come up short in a 66-53 loss at Marshall on Monday night in the WNIT Second Round.

The Retrievers conclude the season with a 17-15 record, while the Thundering Herd improve to 24-9 and move on to the Third Round later this week. 

UMBC trimmed an 11-point fourth quarter deficit down to four, at 57-53, with 3:15 remaining, but couldn't trim the deficit anymore as the hosts scored the final nine points of the game.

Tillman.tallied a team-best 16 points in the effort to finish the season with 505, the fifth most in a single-season in UMBC history. Carmen Yánez had eight points and dished out a a game-high six assists in the final contest of her career, while Delaney Yarborough concluded her collegiate career with eight points, four rebounds and three blocks. 

Freshman standouts Heidi Williams and Kennedy Austin each scored seven points, with Austin pulling down a team-high six boards, and Williams grabbing five of her own with a pair of steals. Tiara Bellamy, Dagny Slomack and Alaina Williams also scored for the Dawgs in the contest.
