Retrievers Welcome Three Transfers for 2026-27 Season

BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's basketball team announced three additions to the program for the 2026-27 season.

Division I transfers Shariah Baynes, Alden Yergey, and Angela Williams will join the Retrievers.

Baynes, a rising junior from Philadelphia, Pa., spent two years as a member of the Towson women's basketball program. Baynes appeared in 52 games with the Tigers, making 14 starts with an average of 15.6 minutes per game. Baynes scored 150 points and dished out 81 assists with the Tigers. In 21 minutes at UMES this past December, Baynes was a perfect 5-5, scoring 13 points, grabbing four rebounds, and handing out three assists. As a member of the Philly Rise, Baynes won three straight national championships.

"UMBC felt like home," said Baynes. "I loved my visit and the chemistry the staff and the girls had with each other. I also appreciated how the staff took the time to show that they cared. I felt valued, so I knew UMBC would be the perfect fit for me!

Yergey, a three-year member of the Siena program, will join UMBC as a redshirt junior. Yergey played 28 games in 2023-24 and 27 in 2025-26, while sitting out the 2024-25 season. In 55 career games, Yergey made 13 starts, averaging 20.5 minutes per night. She has scored 300 points, grabbed 93 rebounds, and handed out 70 assists. The Nokesville, Va. native scored 15 points at Saint Peter's in February. In high school, Yergey was a four-time all-state selection and took Brentsville District to its first-ever state championship game.

"I chose UMBC to win a championship, and for the family environment," said Yergey.

Williams, a rising junior from New Orleans, La., comes from James Madison University after appearing in 64 games across her two seasons. The six-footer scored 201 points and grabbed 180 rebounds, and scored 13 points against Texas State in January and added 12 points and grabbed five rebounds versus Louisiana.

"I chose UMBC because it feels like home, and it was clear the program actually cares for us players as people, not just numbers," said Williams.
