Men's Swimming and Diving

Swimming & Diving Concludes Dual Meet Portion of Schedule at Towson on Saturday

The UMBC Swimming & Diving team will conclude the dual meet portion of the season when it travels to Towson on Saturday. Diving events will begin at 10 a.m., followed by swimming events at 1 p.m.

Last time out,  Ashley Gutshall and Alice Marini each set records as theWomen's Swimming team won every event in a 217-37 win over visiting Frostburg State last Friday afternoon. 

Marini set a new school record in the 100 IM (57.32), while Gutshall broke Olympian Katie Hoff's 20 year-old pool record in the 50 free (22.83).

Marini and Gutshall were the starter and anchor, respectively, on the opening 200 medley relay, as they teamed with Ula Parrill and Erma Duratovic to win the event in 1:44.20.

Shannyn Lambert (2:10.68) and Karli Atwood (2:11.58) took the top two spots in the 200 IM, while Megan Gangaway (1:53.89), Kolby Reese (1:55.18), Ella Nadeau (1:56.23) and Breanna Smith (1:56.83) swept the top four places in the 200 free.  Nicol Davanzo (1:00.23), Alyssa Gonci (1:00.86), GiannaMarie Conti (1:01.70) and Trinity Fourie (1:04.33) went 1-4 in the 100 back, followed by Parrill (1:05.29), Lea Kaiser (1:08.58), Hailey Weigand (1:08.94) and Ellie Taragano (1:10.40) doing the same in the 100 breaststroke. 

Marini (25.55), Duratovic and Daphné Melis (27.94) swept the podium in the 50 fly, before Gutshall set the record in the 50 free with Claire Oettinger (24.71), Gangaway (25.38) and Raegan Sherrill (26.01) taking the spots behind her. Evie Grim (53.66), Reese (54.53) and Weigand (57.65) went 1-2-3 in the 100 free, while Taragano (27.84) and Gonci (29.25) won gold and silver in the 50 back. 

Smith (30.69), Parrill (30.97), Kaiser (31.07) and Lambert (32.83) swept the top four spots in the 50 breaststroke, before Molly Curran (1:00.46), Melis (1:00.57) and Atwood (1:01.44) swept the podium in the 100 fly. Marini then had her record setting 100 IM, with Duratovic (59.27), Davanzo (1:02.38) and Kaiser (1:02.93) finishing right behind her. The meet concluded with the 200 free relay team of Oettinger, Duratovic, Grim and Gutshall winning in 1:37.52.

The Men's Swimming program won every event en route to a dominant 215-42 win over visiting Frostburg State.

Freshmen standouts Quinn Marchionini and Braden Weise led the way by winning all three events they each competed in . 

The meet started with Marchionini, Sean Neils, Stefano Perez and Axel Mori winning the 200 medley relay in 1:31.02. Garrett Jones (1:53.54), Luke Eskola (1:55.96), Matthew Rotunda (1:59.16) and Matthew Johnson (2:00.91) took the top four spots in the 200 IM, followed by Matthew So (1:39.48), Felipe Taveira Lira (1:40.53) and Christian Castro (1:46.04) sweeping the podium in the 200 free.

Nick Bracall (52.46), Michael Truong (53.58) and Nick Zaharescu (54.87) went 1-2-3 in the 100 back, while Weise (56.80), Thyn Van Lier (56.82) and Elliot Fielder (57.43) did the same in the 100 breaststroke. Marchionini (22.68), Perez (22.69) and Tyler Kay (23.33) swept the podium in the 50 fly, and Neils (20.63), Andrew McEachern (22.13) then won the gold and silver in the 50 free.

Mori (46.81) and Truong (48.95) went 1-2 in the 100 free, Perez (23.99) and So (24.26) did the same in the 50 back, and then Van Lier (26.19) Neils (26.59), Rotunda (27.23) and Johnson (27.86) went 1-4 in the 50 breaststroke.

Weise then won the 100 fly in 50.69, with McEachern (52.25), Fielder (54.25) and Zaharescu (55.57) finishing right behind him. Marchionini took gold in the 100 iM in 52.07, with Mori (52.31), Taveira Lira (52.47) and Kay (52.82) taking spots 2-4 behind him.

The meet concluded with the 200 free relay team of Neils, Perez, So and Weise taking gold in 1:23.48.

Both Ember Stennett and Kaleb Cave qualified for NCAA Diving Zones as the UMBC Diving team swept Mary Washington on Saturday.

Stennett won and qualified in both the 1M and 3M, while Cave won and qualified in the 1M and Anders Logas won the 3M. 

In the Women's 1M, Stennett finished with 272.55, with Alicia Buteau (242.03), Isabella Evers (228.90) and Hannah Giblin (178.50) finishing behind her. Stennett then won the 3M with a pool record score of 311.18, followed by Evers (252.75 PR), Buteau (244.80) and Giblin (175.43).

Cave won the Men's 1M with a score of 307.35, Logas took silver (297.83), Aidan O'Callaghan (271.05) won bronze, and Grant Moore (268.58) and Aedan Billington (203.18 PR) finished in fourth and fifth. 

In the 3M, Logas took first with a score of 304.20, followed by Cave (286.05), Moore (269.55) and O'Callaghan (248.55).
