LAST TIME OUT - SIX-GAME WIN STREAK SNAPPED
- UMBCÂ (9-5) had their six-game winning streak snapped after falling to the Maryland Terrapins, 80-64, on Thursday evening at the XFINITY Center.
- The Retrievers trailed by just two points, 44-42, with 13:18 left in the contest but the Terrapins went on a 16-4 spurt midway through the stanza to take control of the game with 7:33 left.
- UMBC got 14 points apiece from graduate students

- UMBC shot 35.9 percent (23-of-64) overall and made 7-of-24 (29.2 percent) of their long-range attempts. Maryland shot 48.1 percent overall (26-of-54) and were 6-of-24 (25 percent) from distance.
- The Terrapins went 22-of-32 (68.8 percent) from the line while the Retrievers were 11-of-16 (68.8 percent).
- The Terps held a 38-36 edge on the boards and outscored UMBC by a 36-28 margin inside the paint.
- Turnovers were even at 17 apiece.
- UMBC had scored at least 70 points in ten straight contests entering the contest.
- Donald Carey paced the hosts with 19 points and was 5-of-7 from deep.

If we could have played without fouling, I think we could have given ourselves a chance to win. I thought we got better tonight even though we lost this game. We didn't play as well as we have been of late but getting better is all that matters. We'll get back to work and get ready for Vermont to start our league play on Sunday."

Dion Brown has made an instant impact over his first four career contests.
The Great Barrington, Massachusetts native grabbed his first America East honor after averaging 16.5 points in a pair of non-conference victories against Loyola (Md.) and William & Mary. Brown shot a sizzling 79 percent from the floor as he drilled a combined 15-of-19 attempts.
- Brown scored a game-high 21 points in just his second career appearance in UMBC's 72-69 triumph at Loyola (Md.) on December 13th. Brown converted 9-of-12 field goal attempts, including 2-for-3 from behind the arc. He also added four rebounds and a steal. The 21 points were the most by a UMBC freshman since Joe Sherburne produced 25 at Duquesne on 12/8/15.
- He followed that up with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting in the 78-62 victory against William & Mary at "The Peake" on December 18th and added 10 points and a season-high nine boards at Maryland on Thursday.
-Brown missed the first 10 games of the season recovering from an injury.

 PICARELLI AMONG NATION'S TOP LONG-RANGE MARKSMAN

Matteo Picarelli has been one of the biggest surprises for the Retrievers through the first 13 contests as he's been one of the leading scorers on the squad at 11.8 ppg.Â
- The Milan, Italy native went for 19 points in the victory against Lafayette and followed that up with a new career-high 21 points in the triumph over Central Connecticut State.Â
- Picarelli is averaging 23.3 minutes per game this season after playing just 8.6 mpg. in 21-22. His 2.7 3's per game is 2nd in the AE (37th in NCAA) and he's first in accuracy (.475), which is good for 15th in the country.

- The Retrievers swished 17 triples for the 5th time in program history at UNCG (11/22/22). UMBC attempted 37 treys, just six shy of their all-time single-game mark.
- The squad then broke the record with 21 bombs in their blowout victoy over Coppin State. The Retrievers attempted 40 shots from distance in the contest.
- UMBC ranks 21st in the country with 9.9 3's made per game.Â
