Baltimore, MD — UMBC assistant men's basketball coach
Ceasar Adim has been selected as an assistant coach for the Nigerian Men's National Team ahead of the 2026 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers.
The qualifiers will take place July 2–5 in Luanda, Angola, where Nigeria will compete against Angola, Guinea, Tunisia, and Rwanda. Sixteen teams will vie for five spots representing Africa at the 2027 FIBA World Cup in Qatar.
I'm grateful to Coach David Fizdale for the opportunity to join his staff as an assistant coach on the Senior National Team," Adim said. "Representing Nigeria is always an honor. I'm excited to keep growing with the Nigerian National Team and help our group take the next step as we work toward qualifying for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar."
Adim joins the national team staff under head coach David Fizdale, a former NBA head coach with the Memphis Grizzlies and New York Knicks, and a recent assistant with the Phoenix Suns. Fizdale selected Adim with aspirations of leading Nigeria to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Since joining head coach
Jim Ferry's staff for the 2021-22 season, Adim has played a key role in UMBC's success, including helping lead the Retrievers to the 2025–26 America East Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament First Four.
Adim's selection highlights his rising profile in collegiate basketball and his continued impact on the international stage.
