Baltimore, Md.-- Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) had the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning of game two to give UMBC their first America East conference victory of the year in an 8-5 win after dropping the opening game 8-2 against the River Hawks.

UMBC moves to 6-11, 1-5 AE while the River Hawks move to 4-17, 2-1 AE.

Game One:

UMass Lowell got the scoring started with a pair in their half of the first. UMBC responded with a pair in the bottom half. The Retrievers loaded the bases on three straight walks, with Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) scoring off a wild pitch to get UMBC on the board. Colin Casey would drive in Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) to tie it at 2-2 after one.

However, the River Hawks would put up five runs in the fifth and another in the ninth, holding UMBC off the scoreboard in an 8-2 win.

Casey led the way with two hits as UMBC mustered just seven hits in the contest.

Game Two:

The Retrievers got off to a strong start in game two, putting up a pair of runs in the first inning. Terrence Pinkston led off the inning with a four-pitch walk and would just pitches later. O'Saben singled through the right side, and would get all the way to third after a fielding error to make it 1-0. Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) brought O'Saben home with a sac bunt to make it 2-0 early.

UMBC would add three more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Andres Machado (Coral Gables, Fla.) scored Ethan Wentzlaff (Damascus, Md./Damascus) on an RBI groundout who reached on a fielder's choice. O'Saben singled up the middle to plate Pinkston and Ethan Gallagher (Catonsville, Md./Mount St. Joseph/Wake Forest) to give UMBC a big lead.

However, the River Hawks would respond, getting a run in the fifth and four in the sixth to tie the game. Casey stepped up and provided the heroics in the sixth, singling home Pinkston who reached on a hit by pitch. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) provided the insurance with a two-run home run to left center, as UMBC would retake an 8-5 lead.

Bryan Gilliam (Mechanicsville, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) came on in the seventh, shutting the door on the River Hawks for his first save of the year.

Wright and O'Saben drove in a pair of runs in the contest, with O'Saben leading with two hits. Aaron Husson (Hawey, Pa.) picked up the win in one inning of relief.

The Retrievers will hit the road for the next five games, starting with a pair of midweek contests at George Washington and Coppin State on Tuesday and Wednesday. The game with the Colonials can be seen on ESPN+.
