BOSTON --
Derek Paris continued to pile up accolades as he was named the America East Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Paris graduated in May with a 3.748 GPA in Computer Science (B.S.) and was a member of the America East All-Conference Second Team. He is a three-time All-Academic Team honoree (24-26) and has made the previous two CSC Academic All-District Teams
This season, he appeared in 50 games, starting 48m and batted .324 with two homers and 32 RBI. He was a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts, and at catcher, threw out eight runners trying to steal.
Nominees were put forward by their institution, which could nominate up to one student-athlete per sport, then voted upon by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement committee. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a projected starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50.
Sport Scholar-Athletes are automatically eligible for the America East Female or Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced later in July.
America East is proud to have one of most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country, which honors over two-thirds of its student-athletes for their success in the classroom.
