Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball won the series with Binghamton after taking game one of the double header, 6-1 before falling in the nightcap 5-3. Mitchell Wilson (Hagerstown, Md./St. James) picked up the win in game one, with Chase Bailey (Fairfax, Va.) taking the loss in game two.

UMBC moves to 7-15, 4-2 AE on the year while Binghamton goes to 5-15, 2-4 AE in 2018.

Game One:

The Retrievers jumped on the Bearcats early, putting up a three spot in the first inning. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) started the inning with a double and would be brought in with a Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va.) double the next at bat. Bright would be brought around after Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y.) drilled a ball over the centerfield fence to make it 3-0.

UMBC added to their advantage the next inning, getting a two-RBI double from Wright scoring Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va.) and Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) who each singled.

After the Bearcats got on the board in the fourth to make it 5-1, UMBC added the dagger in the eighth with Raven Beeman laying down the squeeze bunt to score Stack. The Retrievers held the Bearcats in the ninth to take the series and game one 6-1.

Stack led the way with three hits, scoring twice. Wilson pitched a masterful game, going 7.1 innings, giving up just one run with seven strikeouts.

Game Two:

Game two started the same way game one did with the Retrievers getting runs in the first two innings. Goodwin had an RBI ground out to score Bright in the first with freshman Andres Machado (Coral Gables, Fla.) singling in Joe Milkowski (Lackawanna, N.Y.) in the second.

However, the Bearcats would respond putting up a pair of runs in the third and fourth to take a4-2 lead. UMBC answered with a Bright RBI single in the fifth to cut the deficit to one.

Binghamton would add insurance in the seventh to make it 5-3. The Retrievers would get a pair on in the seventh, but a double play ended the game.

UMBC returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 3 when they host Maryland Eastern Shore at 6 p.m.
