Baltimore, Md. - The UMBC women's basketball team (1-17, 1-8 AE) fell to the Albany Great Danes (6-12, 3-6 AE) by a final score of 75-58 in America East women's basketball action on Wednesday night in UMBC RAC Arena.  The Retrievers allowed the Great Danes to go on an 18-0 run towards the end of the first half and were never able to get back within single digits despite a career-high 22 points from freshman Courtney Doughman.

The Retrievers gained a one-point advantage, 16-25, with 9:32 to play in the first half after Maria Brown drained a trey while being fouled.  Brown converted at the free throw line for on of her 16 points in the game to put UMBC ahead.  The Retrievers and Great Danes traded baskets before Albany exploded for 18 consecutive points, going 7-of-10 from the field in just over five minutes of play and causing six UMBC turnovers.  Sarah Sweetland fueled the Great Danes run with 14 of the team's 18 points and finished the half with the Great Danes final 13 poitns.  Anastasia Goncharova broke the streak with a trey at the 1:24 mark as UMBC went into the break trailing 37-24.

The Retrievers shot 56.5 percent (13-of-23) in the second half but could only get as close as 11 points as Albany used 13 offensive boards and 19 Retriever turnovers to hold UMBC at a distance and take the 75-58 win. 

Sweetland finished the game with a career-high 27 points on 8-fo-14 shooting and 6-of-12 from three-point range.  Danielle Hutcheson chipped in 19 points for Albany.

Doughman was 7-of-12 from the field and 7-of-10 from three-point land en route to her 22 points while Brown finished with 16 and Goncharova added 10. 

The Retrievers hit the road for a conference game at Stony Brook on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.
