Baltimore, Md. - The UMBC women's basketball team (4-21, 4-12 AE) held Hartford (18-9, 9-7 AE) without a field goal made in the final 8:38 of the game, allowing one point on a made free throw as the Retrievers overcame as many as 11 points to defeat the Hawks, 48-46, on Saturday night at UMBC RAC Arena.  Three Retrievers hit double-digits including freshman Sharri Rohde with a team-high 15 points and six rebounds.

The Retrievers trailed 28-23 at the end of the first half and watch the Hawks slowly build an 11-point advantage, 41-30 with by the 13-minute mark in the second stanza.  Momentum started to swing in the Retrievers favor as Rohde was fouled while attempting a three-point shot.

Rohde connected on all three from the foul line and scored the Retrievers next seven points, all from the foul line.  Erika Messam, who had a game-high 16 points, hit the Hawks final field goal of the game at the 8:38 mark on a jumper to send the lead back to 10, 45-35. 

On the ensuing possession Rohde hit her final two free throws of her seven in a row span, sparking the Retrievers late run as Anastasia Goncharova drained a three with 4:56 left to cut the lead to three, 45-42.

Rohde on a lay-up cut the lead to one, 45-44 with 2:44 remaining in the second half.  The Retriever took the lead at the 2:17 mark for the first time since leading 21-18 with 3:26 remaining in the first half as Maria Brown tallied two free throws, giving UMBC a 46-45 lead. 

The Hawks would tie the game at 46-46 on a free throw by Messam but it was Rohde making a beautiful back door cur with 0:54 seconds remaining, laying in a pass from Brown to give UMBC the lead 48-46 as the Hawks missed two chances to tie the game in the final seconds of play. 

Along with Rohde's 15 points, Brown, who has scored in double figures in the last five games, tallied 12 points and Goncharova weighed in with 12 as well.  Messam led the Hawks with 16 points.
