Women's Basketball Begins America East Play by Hosting Binghamton on Saturday

The UMBC Women's Basketball team will kick-off 2025 by hosting Binghamton at 2 p.m. on Saturday in its America East opener. The game will air on ESPN+.

Last time out, the Retrievers dominated visiting Bryn Athyn 101-49 to close out non-conference play last Sunday afternoon at the Peake.

It was the first time the Retrievers (7-5) broke 100 points since scoring 102 against UMES on November 15, 2009.

For the second time this, and in program history, six players recorded double-figures, led by Kenya Ramsey who had herself a day with a career-high 20 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in twelve minutes coming off the bench. Alaina Williams recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and a career high 13 rebounds.

Jaden Walker contributed 13 points and three rebounds and Lauren Thompson added 13 points, while Jordon Lewis had 11 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Jaliena Sanchez added 10 points in the effort.


Scouting Binghamton:

Olivia Kulyk turned in a 21-point, 12-rebound performance, lifting NJIT (4-10, 1-0 AE) to a 58-49 win over Binghamton (8-6, 0-1 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Thursday evening at the Joel & Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center. The game marked the start of the Bearcats' 24th season in the conference.

Kulyk drained four of the Highlanders' eight three-point field goals. In addition, she went 5-for-6 from the free throw line during the final three minutes of the game. Kulyk was the lone NJIT player to reach double figures in scoring.

Sophomore guard Yanniah Boyd led the Bearcats with 15 points while sophomore forward Kendall Bennett added a career-high 12 points. Boyd also finished with four rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.

  • Talia Davis recorded her first career double-double on Nov. 24 against Manhattan with 14 points and a career high 10 rebounds.

  • UMBC reached it's highest NET ranking in program history when it was 268 on 12/20/24

  • As of 1/1/25, the Retrievers are currently nation- ally ranked #5 in three point percentage defense (22.8 pct), leading the America East.
