Baseball Begins Pivotal America East Series at Binghamton on Friday

The UMBC Baseball team (22-20, 11-7 AE) continues it's fight for a top two spot in the America East when it heads to preseason favorite Binghamton for a three-game set beginning on Friday night.

Probable Starters:

Friday (6 p.m.): Luke Johnson (3-4, 3.16 ERA) vs. Gabe Driscoll (4-3, 3.42 ERA)
Saturday (2 p.m.): Jayden Shertel  (2-4, 3.44 ERA) vs. Nelson Berkwich (4-5, 4.62 ERA)
Sunday (1 p.m.): Eddie Sargent  (1-0, 4.71 ERA)  vs. Spencer Howell (1-2, 7.01 ERA)

Last time out,  Anthony Swenda smacked a bases-clearing three-run double with two outs in the top of the ninth to rally the UMBC Baseball team past host Delaware State, 9-8, on Wednesday afternoon.

Swenda also homered, while Dawson Baracani and Derek Paris each had three hit games. Baracani had a pair of RBI and Paris, Luke Trythall and Justin Taylor each added an RBI of their own.

Zach Kelly worked the final 1.2 innings to pick up his first career win, after Joe Pucek was solid in his third start of the season, allowing just two runs in 5.1 innings pitched.

Nico OngMatt Ryan and Danny Wyatt also had hits for the Dawgs.

Scouting Binghamton:
  • The Bearcats (18-25) split a doubleheader with visiting Middle Tennessee State (17-30), winning 6-4 and losing 4-2 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Bearcats Baseball Stadium.
  • In the opener, BU rolled out a senior-laden lineup, did all its damage in the third inning and then held on as the Blue Raiders brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh (final) inning.
  • In Game 2, BU's offense was held in check and MTSU stretched a 2-1 lead with two runs in the seventh on back-to-back two-out solo home runs.
  • The Bearcats brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh before a strikeout stranded two.
  • Then in the ninth, BU got one run back on a Tan solo home run (3rd of season) but a strikeout ended the game.
