Baseball Returns to Road at NJIT

The UMBC Baseball team will hit the road for the first time in 16 days when it travels to NJIT for a three-game America East series. 

Last time out, the Retrievers extended their winning-streak to five as it knocked-off BIG EAST leader Georgetown, 10-6, at Alumni Field on Wednesday.

Matt Ryan homered for the second straight contest and drove in a pair, while Nico Ong and Justin Taylor also had two RBI for UMBC (15-15, 6-3 AE).

Joshua Rivera worked a scoreless inning of relief to pick up his first win of the season after Eddie Sargent struck out five in two scoreless innings of work to start the game.

Scouting NJIT:
  • NJIT currently has a 13-19 overall record and are 4-4 in conference.
  • The Highlanders won a 27-14 slugfest at home against Saint Peter's on Wednesday.
  • The last time the Retrievers faced the Highlanders was on April 7-9, 2023 in Baltimore, where the Retrievers took the series 2-1 
  • Entering the week, Albert Choi led NJIT with a .308 batting average and nine doubles.
  • Cade Ladehoff trailed behind with a .298 batting average, eight home runs, and 39 RBI.
  • Aidan Kidd leads the pitching staff with a 3.92 ERA, striking out 64 batters.
