Women's Basketball Hosts Red-Hot Maine on Saturday Afternoon

The UMBC Women's Basketball team (9-12, 6-4 AE) returns to The Peake to host a red-hot Maine squad (12-9, 8-1 AE) on Saturday at 2 p.m. Fans can catch all the action on ESPN3.

The Retrievers are looking to snap a two-game losing streak, while the Black Bears have won four-straight, including defeating previously undefeated UAlbany last week.

Last Time Out:
  • Ashia McCalla (Greenbelt, Md.) scored 17 points, Nia Staples (Cincinnati, Oh.) tallied 12 and Kiara Bell (Santa Rosa, Calif) had 10 points, 10 rebounds and a season-high five blocks, but host Binghamton went on a 20-6 run in the final four minutes to defeat the UMBC Women's Basketball team, 80-70, on Wednesday night
  • Laycee Drake (Hancock, N.Y.) added 11 points, and KK White (Indianapolis, In.) added 10
  • Bell's five blocks were the most by a Retriever since 1/18/14 (Bridget O'Donnell (7))
Scouting Maine:
  • Maine continued its recent trend of strong defensive play as the Black Bears earned their fourth consecutive win with a 66-43 victory over Bryant (7-16, 1-9 AE) on Wednesday evening.
  • The contest marked the fourth-straight game in which Maine has held its opponent to 50 points or fewer as the Bulldogs only mustered 43 points, a season low defensive effort by the Black Bears.
  • Bryant, which shot just 28.3 percent (15-of-53) from the floor, was unable to score more than 12 points in a quarter all evening as Maine forced 12 turnovers with nine steals.
  • For the 10th time in its last 11 outings, the Black Bears won the rebounding battle as the hosts snatched 43 boards to Bryant's 30.
  • Maine, which never trailed in the game, was led by Adrianna Smith who registered her conference leading 12th double-double behind 14 points and 13 rebounds. Sera Hodgson and Olivia Rockwood each added 11 points in the win.

  • Maine  leads the all-time series, 25-13, has won four straight and 16 of the last 18 in the series.
  • On 1/14/23, Host Maine used a massive second half to pull away from the visiting UMBC Women's Basketball team, 71-54
  • Keelah Dixon (Boston, Mass.) finished with a team-high 17 points on four three-pointers, while Kiara Bell (Santa Rosa, Calif.) added 10 points.
  • McCalla , White and Scoop Smith (Pemberton Township, N.J.) each added seven points in the defeat.
