BALTIMORE – The UMBC women's swimming and diving program honored a dozen seniors and fifth-years before the Retrievers faced George Mason in their final home meet of the 2022-23 season.
One of those seniors -
Sierra Tosten - earned gold just before the final break of the meet, winning the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 58.29.
The Patriots triumphed, 204-94, as the Retrievers completed a three-meet in eight-day stretch. Although the divers will compete at Bucknell on January 28, the swimmers will not face competition again until Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the America East Championships.
"We battled all day long against a really talented team," said Head Coach
Matt Donovan. "After a long week of racing, I could not be happier with where we are at this point. The next five weeks are going to be a lot of fun and hard. We are excited to show what we can do at America East."
UMBC produced a plethora of second-place effort versus the Patriots. Graduate student
Caroline Sargent (100 and 200 backstroke), senior
Taylor Holderfield (100 and 200 breaststroke) and senior
Alexis Bruington (1 and 3-meter diving) earned two silvers each, while senior
Makayla Ludwick (1000 freestyle) junior
Makaela Hill (200 freestyle) and Tosten (50 freestyle) touched second in one event apiece.
