Retrievers Look to Tame Wildcats on Saturday Afternoon at "The Peake"

UMBC'S FOUR-GAME WINING STREAK STOPPED AT UMASS-LOWELL

- The UMBC men's basketball team had their four-game winning streak stopped by the UMass Lowell River Hawks, 81-75, in an America East Conference contest on Wednesday evening at the Costello Athletic Center.
 - Graduate student forward Jarvis Doles scored a season-high 17 points to lead the Retrievers (13-7, 3-2 AE) while senior forward Yaw Obeng-Mensah grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds and added 14 points. Graduate student guard Colton Lawrence and junior guard Matteo Picarelli added 12 points each.  Graduate student guard Craig Beaudion II equaled his season-high with seven assists.
 - UMass Lowell (16-4, 4-2 AE), who has won all ten of their home contests, were led by senior forward Abdoul Karim-Coulibaly's 24 points and 11 boards. Classmate forward Max Brooks added 20 points and six rebounds.
- UMBC shot 51.7 percent overall (30-of-58) but were just 4-of-17 (23.5 percent) from behind the arc. The four treys were a season low.
- UMass Lowell connected on 50.7 percent overall (34-of-67) and were 9-for-26 (34.6 percent) from deep.
- UMBC had been 10-0 when outshooting their opponent and 8-0 when leading at halftime.
- The game featured seven ties and 10 lead changes.
- UMBC was outscored by a 50-44 margin inside the paint.
- Doles went 8-of-12 from the floor.
- Boonyasith recorded five assists and added a team-best three steals. He also went over the 800-point mark for his career.
 
ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE
- The Wildcats have won two of their last three America East contests, defeating Vermont and Maine. UNH's most recent outing was an 87-81 home loss to Bryant.
- UNH is holding opponents to an America East low 65.0 points per game but are next to last in scoring (67.1 pg.).
- Junior guard Nick Johnson is sixth in the league in scoring (15.2 ppg.) and rebounding (7.6 rpg.).
 
SERIES HISTORY
- UMBC has won 9 of the last 11 meetings versus the Wildcats and have won six straight in Baltimore.
- New Hampshire defeated the Retrievers, 68-62, in Durham last season. Johnson scored 10 points and is the leading returning player from that contest
 
DOG BITES
- UMBC picked up their program-record 10th non-conference regular-season victory on Monday versus Hartford.
- UMBC is averaging 84.0 ppg. over their past five games
- UMBC is 13-2 when they shoot 40 percent or higher. The two losses came at UNC Greensboro and UMass Lowell. They are also 12-1 when they outshoot their opponent. The defeat came at UMass Lowell.
- The Retrievers are 8-0 when they hold opponents under 70 points.
- Tra'Von Fagan is averaging 11.8 points and is shooting an America East high 65 percent (22-of-34) in conference games.
- UMBC is a combined 42-of-49 (86 percent)  from the foul line in the final four minutes this season.
- Matteo Picarelli is 18-of-19 (95 percent) from the line in AE play, which leads the league.
- Craig Beaudion II went 7-for-8 from the foul line against Maine on Saturday. He entered the game just 6-for-9 from the stripe.

BOMBS AWAY
- The Retrievers swished 17 triples for the 5th time in program history at UNCG (11/22/22).  UMBC attempted 37 treys, just six shy of their all-time single-game mark.
- The squad then broke the record with 21 bombs in their blowout victory over Coppin State. The Retrievers attempted 40 shots from distance in the contest.
- UMBC ranks 29th in the country with 9.2 3's made per game and 40th in attempts per game at 25.3.
 
TAKING CARE OF THE BALL

- UMBC ranks 11th in the country with a 1.50 assists/turnover ratio
- The Retrievers are 12th in the country in fewest turnovers per game (10.2).
- UMBC committed a season-low 5 miscues at Bryant.
- Starting point guard Craig Beaudion II is 33rd in the country in assists/turnover ratio (2.59). He's also 6th in the AE in steals per game (1.3).
- UMBC is 10-4 win they win the turnover battle.
 
BENCH MOB
- UMBC's bench ranks 23rd in the country with 28.5 ppg.
- Matteo Picarelli leads the charge at 10.8 ppg.
 
THAT 70'S SHOW
- The Retrievers scored 70 or more points in 10 straight before the 64-point output at Maryland. It was the first time they had hit the mark 10 straight times since the 2000-01 season. They are 12-3 when they score 70+ this season.
 
AMERICA EAST LEADERS
- UMBC leads the conference in free throw percentage (.764), turnover margin (1.8), assists/turnover ratio (1.53), assists per game (15.5).
