BALTIMORE – Senior wing
Jacob Boonyasith led four players in double-figures with 19 points as the host UMBC men's basketball team defeated the Hartford Hawks, 87-62, in a non-conference victory at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena on Monday evening.

UMBC (13-6), who shot a season-high 58.3 percent (35-of-60), picked up their DI program-record tenth regular-season non-conference win.

Boonyasith converted 7-of-11 field goal attempts and was 4-for-6 from behind the arc. Graduate student forward

Colton Lawrence (12 points), and graduate student forward
Tra'Von Fagan (11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) were also in double-figures in scoring.

Junior guard Briggs McClain scored a game-high 20 points to pace the Hawks, who fell to 4-15.

How It Happened (First Half)
-The Retrievers, who never trailed, raced out to a 26-8 lead as they drained 11 of their first 13 field goal attempts over the first 8:40. Graduate student guard
Craig Beaudion II swished three treys and Doles added seven points during the stretch.
- UMBC extended their lead to 36-16 with 4:54 remaining after a 3-pointer by Lawrence.
- Hartford managed to trim the deficit to 36-21 after a 5-0 spurt with just over three minutes left, however the Retrievers extended their lead to 46-23 at intermission. Boonyasith ignited the 10-2 run with back-to-back triples and junior guard
Matteo Picarelli and Fagan followed with buckets.

How It Happened (Second Half)
-The visitors opened the final stanza with nine consecutive points to whittle the deficit to 14 points, 46-32, with 17:13 remaining. Guard Michael Dunn (18 points) converted three of his game-high six treys to account for all of the scoring.
- UMBC widened their lead to 55-38 after freshman guard
Dion Brown hit two free throws at the 14:28 mark but the Hawks responded with an 8-2 burst to cut the deficit to 57-46 with 11:58 left.
- Hartford still only trailed 62-51 with 10:01 left but the hosts allowed the Hawks to score just three points over the next six minutes, expanding their lead to a game-high 27 points at 81-54. Fagan led the way with seven points during the 19-3 run that put the game away.

-Â UMBC made 10-of-22 (45.5 percent) from 3-point territory.
-The Retrievers outboarded the Hawks by a 34-23 count and held a 38-20 scoring advantage inside the paint.
- Hartford shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) and were 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from deep.
- UMBC has scored 80+ points in four straight contests for the first time this season.

 "We came out in the first half and set the tone. I thought we were more aggressive defensively and really shared the ball and played the right way offensively. The second half you have to give Hartford credit they never gave up and tried to grind their way back. Once we settled down we got the lead back up past 20 points and put the game away."
