Dixon Scores Season-High 20, But Women's Basketball Falls in Season Finale

Box Score Vestal, N.Y. -- Junior guard Keelah Dixon (Boston, Mass.) scored a season-high 20 points, but a furious UMBC Women's Basketball rally came up short in a 58-48 setback at Binghamton on Wednesday night. With the loss, UMBC concludes the season with a 3-23 record overall and a 2-14 record in America East play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Binghamton jumped out to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter, thanks to holding UMBC to 2-19 shooting.
  • The Retrievers shot better in the second quarter, but Binghamton still took a 35-21 into the half. Dixon had 11 points in the half for UMBC, while five other Retrievers had two points each.
  • In the first half, BU held UMBC to 8-35 shooting, while the hosts shot 15-24.
  • The Bearcats extended the lead to 20, at 41-21, early in the third, but Dixon sparked a 9-2 run to trim it down to thirteen.
  • The teams then went back-and-forth until a Laycee Drake (Hancock, N.Y.) three cut the deficit to nine, but BU responded and would lead 52-41 after three.
  • UMBC would get the lead down seven, at 55-48, on a Dixon layup with just under four minutes left, but would not score again.

Graduate student Janee'a Summers (Bound Brook, N.J.) wrapped up her career in 11th place on the UMBC all-time scoring list with 1,245 points. She also contributed a season-best 10 rebounds to finish her career in seventh on the UMBC all-time rebounding list with 712.
