Women's Basketball Looks to Continue Winning Ways at Hartford

Fresh off its first America East win of the season, the UMBC Women's Basketball team travels to Hartford (2-18, 2-7 AE) as it looks for its second-straight win. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and fans can watch on ESPN+

Scouting the Retrievers:

  • UMBC (2-15, 2-7 AE) outscored host UNH, 23-4, in the fourth quarter, wiping out a 17-point 2nd half deficit and triumphing, 57-52 on Sunday afternoon
  • After being blanked versus UAlbany on Wednesday, UMBC graduate student Janee'a Summers (Bound Brook, N.J.) bounced back in a huge way, leading the Retrievers with a career-high tying 25 points.
  • Summers buried a career best five treys in ten attempts.
  • The Retrievers recorded 10 fourth quarter steals, which led to 15 of their 23 fourth quarter points.
  • The stunning comeback snapped the Retrievers' 15-game losing streak, which was interrupted on multiple occasions by game postponements and cancellations.

Scouting the Hawks

  • Sophomore Paula Maurina scored a team-high 15 points, but Hartford's fourth-quarter comeback came up short, dropping a 64-57 decision to visiting UMass Lowell on Monday evening.
  • Maurina went 7-of-12 from the field, and had a team-high five rebounds
  • Lya Farcy joined Maurina in double-figures, scoring 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting, and added five assists
  • Hartford held the River Hawks to 42% shooting (21-of-50), but allowed the visitors to shoot 11-of-21 (52.4%) from three

All-Time Series

  • Hartford leads the all-time series, 28-10.
  • The Hawks had won five in a row before UMBC swept the series in 19-20
  • UMBC is 3-14 all-time on the road against Hartford.
  • The two teams did not meet last season
