Women's Basketball Begins Five-Game Road Trip at St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday

The UMBC Women's Basketball team will look to get back into the win-column as it begins a five-game road trip at St. Franics Brooklyn on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The game will be the final athletic contest ever played at the Terriers fabled Daniel Lynch Gymnasium.

Last time out, UMBC had the ball down three with under 25 seconds left, but could not complete a late comeback as it fell to visiting Richmond, 64-57, on Thursday night at The Peake. UMBC (1-3) was once again paced on offense by Keelah Dixon (Boston, Mass) who finished with a team-best 13 points to go along with a career-high six assists.

The Retrievers found themselves down 60-53 with under two minutes left, but Smith would yet again get an offensive put-back to cut the Richmond lead to 60-55 with 1:45 left. After the Spiders missed a shot, Nia Staples (Cincinnati, Oh.) found Dixon streaking down the court. Dixon was fouled and hit both free throws to make it a 60-57 game. A Richmond turnover with 34 seconds left gave UMBC a chance to tie, but an offensive foul gave the ball back to the Spiders with 22 seconds left. The guests would hit all of their free throws down the stretch to escape with the victory.

SCOUTING ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN

The Terriers enter Sunday's matchup on a three-game losing skid, despite two of those losses coming by less than eight points. In Wednesday's 56-49 defeat to NJIT, they outscored the hosts 47-41 after falling behind 15-2 to start the game. Alyssa Fisher continues to be a go-to player on the offensive end. She led the way with 16 points Wednesday and averages 16.3 points per game through four games. She also leads the team in steals (eight) and three-pointers made (eight). Ella Ogier is St. Francis Brooklyn's only other scorer in double figures (10.0 points per game). She also leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per game. Junior transfer Bella Green had a strong showing against the Highlanders, contributing 13 points and eight rebounds.

UMBC leads the all-time series 5-1, but lost the last contest between the two sides, 63-51 at The Peake last season. The other five games were competed between 2000 and 2003.
