Dixon Shines, But Women's Basketball Falls at Loyola

Box Score BALTIMORE-- Keelah Dixon (Boston, Mass.) scored a team-best 21 points, while Ashia McCalla (Greenbelt, Md.) added 13 points, five rebounds and three steals, but the UMBC Women's Basketball team fell to host Loyola, 61-47, at Reitz Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Dixon's 21 points were her most in a UMBC uniform, as she shot 7-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-3 from three.

She started the game on fire, scoring the first seven Retriever points as UMBC took a 12-11 lead into the 2nd quarter. However, Loyola (1-2) would open the second quarter on a 14-3 run to go up 25-15. UMBC (1-2) would score the final four points of the quarter to go into the half down 29-22.

The Greyhounds dominated the third, outscoring the Retrievers 19-9 to take a 48-31 lead into the final frame. 

McCalla and Dixon hit back-to-back threes early in the fourth to trim the Loyola lead to 52-40, but the Greyhounds would hold-off UMBC the rest of the way to earn the victory.

Kiara Bell (Santa Rosa, Calif.) also had a solid game for the Retrievers, finishing with nine points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks. 

UMBC returns to The Peake to host Richmond on Thursday, November 17th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
