Women's Basketball Continues Road Trip at UMass Lowell

The UMBC Women's Basketball team continues its three games in five days road trip at America East rival UMass Lowell on Monday. Tip-off is scheduled for noon, with the game being available on ESPN+.

Last time out, Onome-Juliet Esadah (Warri, Delta State, Nigeria) scored nine points and collected four rebounds, but the UMBC Women's Basketball team fell to host Vermont, 69-36, on Saturday afternoon

Scouting the Retrievers:

  • Vermont (8-7, 2-2 AE) scored the first six points of the game before Loan-Anh Johnson (Wichita, Kan.) made a layup to get UMBC (1-11, 0-2 AE) on the board, but UVM would take a 17-5 lead into the second quarter
  • Esadah would score seven of her points in the second quarter, and her three-point play with 1:33 left before the half cut the deficit to 26-16. 
  • The Catamounts would respond with the final four points of the half to lead 30-16 at the break. 
  • The hosts went on a big run to start the third quarter and took a 49-26 lead into the fourth quarter
  • Junior Haile McDonald (Winchester, Va.) scored her first points as a Retriever in the fourth quarter. She made both of her shots to finish with four points.
  • This is UMBC's longest losing streak (11) since dropping 13 straight from 11/17/17-1/10/18

Scouting the River Hawks

  • In its first game in three weeks, the UMass Lowell women's basketball team fell to visiting UAlbany (9-4, 2-0 AE) 58-52 last Wednesday.
  • Junior Kaylen Banwareesingh (Bronx, N.Y.) led the River Hawks with 10 points. 
  • Freshman Ivory Finley (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored eight, while junior Shamyjha Price (Pittsburgh, Penn.) scored nine
  • Kharis Idiom (Orlando, Fla.) has paced the River Hawk offense with 9.8 points per game, and leads the team with 25 assists and 14 steals
  • Idiom has also hit a team-high 13 three-pointers so far this season

All-Time Series

  • UMBC leads the all-time series, 8-7, with all the contests occuring since UMass Lowell moved to Division I for the 2013-14 season.
  • UMass Lowell won the first four matchups before UMBC won the next seven. The River Hawks then won the next three before the Retrievers defeated visiting UML, 65-52, in their last matchup on 2/8/20.
