Box Score 2 Binghamton, N.Y.-- UMBC baseball dropped their sixth and seventh in a row in 9-0 and 3-2 losses at Binghamton on Saturday. UMBC only mustered three hits in game one before rallying to tie game two late. However, the Bearcats would walk it off in the ninth to take both games.
UMBC falls to 14-20, 9-20 AE on the year while the Bearcats improve to 14-12, 14-12 AE.
Game One:
Binghamton got things going early with a run in their half of the first and kept the Retrievers without a hit through the first three innings as the Bearcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Ian Diaz (Philadelphia, Pa.) got the first Retriever hit in the fourth but would be stranded on base.
After a pair of runs for Binghamton in the fifth, Jack Ryan (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) led off the sixth with a double but would once again be stranded on base. Binghamton would open up the lead in the sixth with four runs, as starter Thomas Babalis held the Retrievers to just three hits in a 9-0 loss for UMBC.
Diaz, Ryan, and Dylan Wilkinson (Fairfax, Va.) picked up hits in the loss.
Game Two:
Binghamton once again got out to a good start taking an early 2-0 lead after the first three innings. UMBC would respond in their half of the fourth. Luke Belanger (Alexandria, Va.) reached on a single and would advance on a Wilkinson ground out. The very next pitch, Joe Novenche (Clifton Park, N.Y.) singled home Belanger to cut the deficit in half.
UMBC tied it in the sixth after Luke Trythall (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) doubled to lead off the inning. Peter Godrick (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) pinch ran and would score on a Belanger single through the right side to tie it up 2-2.
The Retrievers would threaten in the seventh with Drew Roberts (Matthews, N.C.) getting to third, but he would be stranded on base. The Bearcats would throw the final punch as they walked it off in the ninth to take the nightcap, 3-2.
Belanger and Novenche each drove in a run with Belanger being the lone Retriever with multiple hits.
UMBC and Binghamton conclude their series tomorrow starting at noon.
