Scouting the Retrievers:
-UMBC comes into the final three weeks of the season at 14-18, 9-18 AE after going 0-4 last weekend against NJIT at Alumni Field. The Retrievers had a chance in games two and three to pull out a win, but the Highlanders held on to win.
-Ian Diaz (Philadelphia, Pa.) leads the team at the dish with a .379 average with a team-best 39 hits, 28 runs scored, and eight home runs. He is tied with senior Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) with 25 RBI. As a team, the Retrievers have mashed 36 home runs and are batting .280 as a team with 61 total stolen bases.
-Shane Gorman (Orland Park, Ill.) leads the pitching staff with a 1.42 ERA in four appearances. Reid Celata (Virginia Beach, Va.) leads the rotation with a 5.54 ERA in seven starts and has thrown the most innings with 39.0 IP. Luke Johnson (Lewes, Del.) has struck out a team-best 27 batters in 34.0 innings.
Scouting the Bearcats:
-Binghamton comes into the weekend at 12-12, 12-12 AE after earning a series split with Division B leader Stony Brook last weekend on Long Island. The Bearcats won game one both days including a 10-0 rout in game one. Binghamton has played just eight home games this season.
-Tommy Reifler, Justin Drpich and Shane Marshall are all batting over .300 with Reifler leading the charge at .338. Drpich and Marshall are hitting .310 and .302 respectively with Drpich smacking eight doubles. Daniel Franchi leads the team with 29 hits.
-Jack Collins and reigning pitcher of the week Thomas Babalis are leading the rotation with sub 3.00 ERA. Collins is sporting a 2.75 ERA with a 3-0 record. Babalis leads the entire pitching staff with 41 strikeouts and a 2.87 ERA in seven starts.
All-Time Series:
-The Retrievers and Bearcats have met 73 times prior to this weekend, including four times just two weeks ago in Baltimore. The Bearcats hold a 50-23 lead in the series after the two split the series earlier.
-UMBC has had success in New York against the Bearcats going 6-3 since the 2015 season.
On Deck:
-The Retrievers will return to Baltimore for the final home weekend of the season against Stony Brook next Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16. The first pitch for both days will be at noon with senior day ceremonies taking place Sunday pregame.
