2021: Was part of the weekend rotation for the Retrievers all season making 10 starts and 11 appearances… Went 4-7 with two complete games and a team-high 56.0 innings… Gave up 36 earned runs with 30 strikeouts… Picked up a win in his first start of the season against Delaware State on March 7 going 6.0 innings with five strikeouts… Had a complete game victory against UMass Lowell on March 20 going 7.0 innings giving up just two runs… Had another five strikeout performance at Binghamton on May 8.
2020: Made three starts as part of the weekend rotation for the Retrievers… Went 0-2 in 15.1 innings of work with a 4.11 ERA… Struck out ten, giving up 19 hits with just four walks… Started in the season opener, throwing five innings and giving up just one run with four strikeouts.
2019: Appeared in 15 games making five starts for the Retrievers on the mound… Went 1-1 with a 5.89 ERA in 36.2 innings of work… Gave up 48 hits, striking out 25… Made his collegiate debut against UNC Asheville on February 24 tossing one scoreless inning with one strikeout… Had four strikeouts in his first start, picking up the win in five innings of scoreless work.
Background: First team all-conference during his junior and senior seasons… Was named first team all-state and conference player of the year as a senior… During his senior season, he batted .434 with six home runs along with a 1.90 ERA and 53 strikeouts on the mound… Also ran track in high school.
Personal: Son of Don and Carla Celata… Has one brother, Trey who played at Hampden-Sydney College… Plans on majoring in biology with a career ambition of being a nurse practitioner… Chose UMBC over Christopher Newport, Hampden-Sydney, VMI and William & Mary… Favorite food is swordfish and pro team is St. Louis Cardinals.
