BALTIMORE-- UMBC baseball returns to Alumni Field for a four-game set against Binghamton this weekend. The series was moved up to Friday and Saturday due to impending inclement weather in the Baltimore metro area this weekend. The Retrievers are coming off an 0-4 weekend at Stony Brook last weekend that dropped the Retrievers to 12-12, 7-12 AE.

Scouting the Retrievers:
-UMBC heads into the weekend at 12-12, 7-12 AE just a few games out of the final playoff spot in the league after going 0-4 at Stony Brook last weekend. The Retrievers held a lead in every game, but the Seawolves found a way to win each game. The Retrievers have fared better at home going 8-4 compared to 4-8 on the road.
-Freshman Drew Roberts (Matthews, N.C.) leads the team at the plate with a .369 batting average. He has collected 24 hits with 22 runs scored, nine doubles, and 14 RBI. Ian Diaz (Philadelphia, Pa.) has been the most consistent Retriever at the plate with a team-best 28 hits. Christian Maceda (Oradell, N.J.) leads the team with five home runs with Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) leading the team with 22 RBI.
-Reid Celata (Virginia Beach, Va.) leads the rotation with a 3.86 ERA in five starts. He has thrown 30.1 innings with one complete game and 16 strikeouts compared to just six walks. Joe Nestel (Drexel Hill, Pa.) leads the staff with23 strikeouts with Tyler McDonnell (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) leading the pitching staff with a 1.50 ERA in eight appearances.
Scouting the Bearcats:
-Binghamton heads to Charm City at 8-8, 8-8 AE on the year with identical 4-4 records both at home and on the road. The Bearcats most recently took three of four from NJIT at home this past weekend. Binghamton gave up just five runs outscoring the Highlanders 10-5.
-Tommy Reifler leads the team at the plate with a .350 average. Daniel Franchi had a team-best 18 hits with five doubles and 10 runs scored. Alex Baratta has driven in a team-best nine runs.
-Thomas Babalis is coming off a complete-game shutout against NJIT where he struck out 10 in seven innings. He leads the pitching staff with 29 strikeouts. Jack Collins leads the rotation with a 0.66 ERA in three starts giving up just two earned runs in 27.1 innings. As a team, the Bearcats have a 3.37 ERA with opponents hitting .231 against them.
All-Time Series:
-The Bearcats and Retrievers have met 69 times prior to this weekend with Binghamton leading the series 48-21. This will be the first meeting since the 2019 season where the two met just twice in Baltimore where the Bearcats won 13-4 and 7-5. UMBC has had success in recent years winning four of the last seven series dating back to the 2015 season.
Roberts Going Back-to-Back:
-Freshman Drew Roberts repeated as America East Rookie of the Week this week after another week of hitting .500 or better. He joins Christian Torres, Joe Nestel, and Adam Schwartz (Akron, Pa.) as weekly award winners this season.
On Deck:
-UMBC will remain home to take on America East newcomer NJIT next Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2 to open the final month of play.
