The UMBC men's soccer squad (2-1-1, 1-1-1 AE) heads back to New York and will take on the Bingthamton Bearcats (1-1-0, 1-1-0) in America East action on Friday, March 19. The contest kicks off at 1:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on the ESPN+.

Sophomore Ryan Becher (Hummelstown, Pa.) quickly ended overtime, heading in a Julian Conze (Telgte, Germany) direct kick just 57 seconds into the extra frame to give the Retrievers a hard-earned 1-0 victory over UAlbany on March 12.
The former America East All-Rookie team member notched his fifth career goal and his third career game-winning tally.
The Retrievers and junior goalkeeper Quantrell Jones (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) registered shutout No. 3 of the season.

Jones leads America East with three shutouts and now has 10 in his career. After making a career-high nine saves in the opener vs. GW, he has been called upon to make only 11 stops in the last three games. His save of a Aki Solvason shot in the 72' at Stony Brook earned him No. 6 on the Sports Center Top Ten list on March 3.
Foes Finally Dent the Net
UMBC opened the season by not allowing a goal for the first 260 minutes of action before NJIT converted on a penalty kick rebound.
Milestone
Head Coach Pete Caringi, Jr.is the third coach in UMBC history to mentor a program for 30 or more seasons. He recorded his 300th is next victory on Feb. 27, as UMBC defeated George Washington, 1-0, in double overtime.
Honored
UMBC freshman forward Taylor Calheira (Towson, Md./Concordia Pre) and junior goalkeeper Quantrell Jones (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) earned two of the three weekly honors from the America East Conference on March 1.
Calheira earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Jones was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
Making his collegiate debut, Calheira struck off a corner kick in the 106' as the host Retrievers opened the 2020-21 campaign with a 1-0 double overtime victory over George Washington on February 23. Jones set a new career high with nine saves and recorded his eighth career shutout in the Retrievers' 1-0 double-overtime victory over the Colonials.

- The back-to-back shutouts of GW and Stony Brook were the Retrievers' first since the first two games of the 2017 campaign
- The Retrievers received 18 votes (30th-most) in Soccer Wire's Week 1 national rankings (March 2).
- UMBC is set to play six America East Conference games, which includes home and away dates with NJIT and Stony Brook and single game versus UAlbany and at Binghamton.
- The America East Championships will be held April 15 and 17 at a single site, with the champion advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
- Juniors Jordan Ehart (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) and Quantrell Jones and sophomore Julian Conze (Telgte, Germany) will serve as tri-captains for the 2020-21 campaign.
- Twelve of 23 players on the squad are newcomers. Five freshmen (Calheira, Hanks, Jago Lott, Hans Nesheim, William Forby) have started all four games to date.
- Binghamton has potted four goals in their two games to date, opening with a 2-1 victory versus UAlbany and dropping 3-2 decision at Hartford.
- Senior midfielder Noah Luescher scored both goals versus the Great Danes and added a third against the Hawks. He now has 14 career goals.
- Binghamton holds a 9-7-4 lead in the all-time series versus UMBC and is 3-1-1 in the last five contests.
- UMBC has not won in Vestal, N.Y. since 2011, going 0-2-2 in the last four matches.
- In the last meeting, UMBC outshot BU, 12-8, and took eight of the 11 corners in the match, but fell, 1-0, conceding a goal in the 67'.
