Boston, Mass. – On Tuesday afternoon, UMBC junior
Jojo Ocran, junior
Brady Geho, freshman
Shawn Shvartshtein, and senior
Ricky Schissler were recognized with postseason awards by the America East Conference for men's soccer.
Ocran received First Team honors for the first time in his career. As a defender, he played a crucial role by starting all 17 games and logging every minute of the team's 1,550 total minutes in 2025. In addition to his strong defensive contributions, the Baltimore native scored the first two goals of his career. Ocran tallied for UMBC in a 1-1 draw against New Hampshire on October 11 and again in a 3-3 tie at George Washington on October 21.
Geho was named to the Second Team after joining the program this season. The forward currently ranks third in the league with 16 points and is tied for third with seven goals. A native of Westminster, Maryland, Geho earned America East Offensive Player of the Week accolades on September 2 and was named the Most Valuable Player of the UMBC/Navy Invitational. He scored just thirty-eight seconds into a match, leading UMBC to a 1-0 victory against Howard University. Additionally, the Archbishop Curley graduate contributed two goals from penalty kicks and provided an assist in UMBC's 3-1 win over Niagara during the same event. In late October, Geho scored four goals over a three-game span, including a brace in a critical conference victory against Binghamton.
Shvartshtein, a native of Ontario, Canada, earned All-Rookie Team honors after starting in the midfield for all 17 matches. The Bill Crothers Prep graduate played a total of 1,488 minutes and excelled on both ends of the field. His contributions were vital in helping the Retrievers slot third in the conference, with a goals-against average of 1.00.
Schissler, a defender, was recognized for his academic achievements by being named to the All-Academic Team. He maintains a perfect 4.00 grade point average and is majoring in Media and Communications Studies. Additionally, he is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society. Hailing from Fallston, Maryland, Schissler scored four goals this past season, achieving this feat in four consecutive games against George Washington, UMass Lowell, Binghamton, and NJIT. His goal against UMass Lowell marked his first game-winning goal in Baltimore. The Archbishop Curley graduate also provided an assist in a 1-0 victory against Saint Peter's.
After a challenging start to the conference season, falling to a pair of top-ranked teams in the country, the Retrievers rallied to qualify for the America East Tournament as the No. 5 seed. UMBC was eliminated by No. 4 New Hampshire in penalty kicks following a scoreless draw.
