Women's Basketball Returns Home to Host St.Francis Brooklyn

The UMBC Women's Basketball team returns home for the first time since November 9th when it begins a two-game homestand by hosting St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena, with the game being broadcast on ESPN+.

Scouting the Retrievers:
  • UMBC (1-5) returns home on a five game slide after dropping all the contests on a five-game road trip. 
  • This is the longest losing streak for the program since dropping five-straight from 1/2/19 -1/18/19
  • American shot 37.3% from the field and forced 25 UMBC turnovers en route to a 55-47 win Wednesday evening to conclude the road-swing 
  • Onome-Juliet Esadah (Warri, Delta State, Nigeria) paced the Retriever offense with 14 points. 
  • Danae Marquez (Fresno, Calif.) added eight points and had a team high 4 assists.
  • UMBC has used a different starting lineup in every game this season, with Esadah being the only player to start every game.  
Scouting the Terriers
  • St. Francis Brooklyn is 2-4 after losing to Stony Brook, 71-64, on the road Sunday afternoon.
  • Junior Nevena Dimitrijevic was impressive even in defeat, finishing with 18 points, six rebounds, and 4 assists.
  • Dimitrijevic leads the team in assists per game, averaging 4 assists per contest.
  • Sophomore Fruzsina Horvath leads the Terriers in scoring (15 ppg), fg (27), and in rebounds (5.2 rpg). She's second in three point percentage (44.4%). 
  • Graduate Student Taylor Brown had 11 points on Sunday and is averaging 7.7 points and has 9 steals on the season.

All-Time Series
UMBC leads the all-time series 8-1, but the teams haven't met since the Retrievers defeated the Terriers in N.Y. 68-48, in 2003. UMBC has won the last six matchups. St. Francis Brooklyn's only win in the series was a 69-52 victory in Baltimore in 1999.
