The UMBC Women's Basketball team (1-8) makes its way to Syracuse for its penultimate non-conference game this Saturday morning. Tip-off is slated for 11 a.m. and fans can watch on ACC Network Extra.
Scouting the Retrievers:
- Janee'a Summers (Bound Brook, N.J.) scored a career-high 25, but host Howard used a 14-2 third quarter run to break-open a tight game en route to a 74-61 win on Tuesday night.
- Summers moved into 14th place on the UMBC all-time scoring list with the performance, and now has 1074 points in her career
- Onome-Juliet Esadah (Warri, Delta State, Nigeria) hit a layup just before the halftime buzzer to cut the Howard lead to 36-35 at the half
- Esadah then made a layup seconds into the third quarter to give UMBC a 37-36 lead, but that's when the hosts responded with a 14-2 run to take the lead for good.
- Alexia Nelson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made a layup to cut the deficit to 50-43, but the hosts again would respond with an 8-3 run to head into the final frame up 58-46.
- Jatarrikah Settle (Frederick, Md.) added 10 points and four rebounds
- Esadah finished with 13 points and three rebounds, while Summers tied her season-high with eight rebounds.
Scouting the Orange
- Syracuse (7-4. 1-1 ACC) enters on a five-game winning streak after routing ACC foe Clemson 86-46 last Saturday
- Cuse had four players score in double-figures in the game, led by Naje Murray's 21 points
- Alaysia Styles had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds
- Teisha Hyman had eight points, nine assists and six rebounds
- Five players average double-digit points per game led by Chrislyn Carr with 15.4 points per game, while Hyman averages 14.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.6 assists per gameÂ
- The Orange defeated No.18/20 Ohio State 97-91 on 12/1
