Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Emmitsburg, Md.—UMBC baseball got a balanced attack on offense, coupled with strong pitching to sweep the double header against the Mountaineers on Saturday, winning the series and their sixth straight game. The Retrievers took game one 6-5, winning the nightcap 10-4.

UMBC wins their sixth in a row and improve to 11-11 while Mount St. Mary's falls to 9-15 on the year.

Game One:

UMBC wasted no time getting out to an early lead on the Mountaineers, getting a two-run home run from Christian Torres (Miami, Fla.) in the first inning with two outs.

After the Mountaineers got a run in their half of the first, UMBC put up two more in the second. Peter Godrick (Millersville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) scored on a wild pitch and was followed by Reese Varley (Haymarket, Va.) scoring on a Terrence Pinkston (La Plata, Md./McDonough/Norfolk State) to make it 4-1 Retrievers. Once again, the Mountaineers answered back with a pair in the third to cut the deficit to just one.

The Retrievers got a run in the fourth on a fielder's choice that scored Varley to push the lead to 5-3, but Mount St. Mary's had the answer with a pair of runs in the fifth to tie it.

Colin Casey (Ipswich, Mass.) provided the heroics with a pinch-hit RBI single to score Ryan Brown (Hagerstown, Md./St. James/Charleston Southern) to give UMBC the lead. The Mountaineers would threaten, but UMBC shut the door in the seventh for a 6-5 win.

Five different Retrievers recorded hits in the contest with Torres driving in two of the six runs.

Game Two:

The Retrievers scored four runs in the first two innings to take control of the game. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J.) reached on a fielding error that scored Pinkston, with Torres following up with a double down the left field line to score Wright. In the second, Pinkston doubled in Godrick and Blaze O'Saben (Warrenton, Va.) singled in Pinkston to put the Retrievers in front 4-0 early.

Mount St. Mary's cut the deficit in half with runs in the third and fourth before UMBC retook control scoring six straight over the next two innings.

Joey Goodwin (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) singled home Torres in the fifth to make it 5-2. Pinkston smashed a solo home run to kick start the sixth. Casey grounded out that allowed O'Saben to score with the inning being capped by a Goodwin two-run home run to push the lead to 9-2.

The Mountaineers would add a run in the sixth, but UMBC got their tenth run of the game on an O'Saben RBI ground out, as UMBC would earn a 10-4 victory in game two.
