Gage Announces Hiring of Robinson and Okojie to Player Development Roles

BALTIMORE -- UMBC Baseball head coach Dave Gage has announced the hiring of Alex Robinson and Retriever alum Ehi Okojie to the coaching staff.

Robinson will serve as Director of Player Development, while Okojie will be the Player Development Assistant.

"Adding Alex and Ehi to our coaching staff will be a great addition for our players and program," said Gage. "I am very excited to bring Alex into our program. Alex is focused on developing people and with his experience will be positive for our players. The opportunity to keep Ehi as a Retriever so he can share how to be successful in the America East will make us all better."

Robinson is the owner of The Yard Baseball Academy and was most recently the Director of Player Development at CCBC Essex. Alex played seven years in the Minnesota Twins organization, retiring in 2021. He played at the University of Maryland from 2013-2015 where he helped the team win regionals in 2014 and 2015. He was a Top 200 MLB prospect, ranked the NECBL Most Projectable Prospect and drafted in the 5th round of the MLB draft. Alex is also a certified athlete life coach, working on the mental side of the game.

Okojie, the 2026 America East Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection, started all 52 games he appeared in during the 2026 season. He slashed .312/.576/.967 with 12 homers and a league-best 60 RBI. He also led the America East in doubles (18), had a team-best 118 total bases, and was second with 47 runs scored. In America East play, he led the league with eight homers and 32 RBI
