Women's Cross Country

Ponton Paces Women's Cross Country at Princeton Invitational

West Windsor, N.J. – Junior Kelsey Ponton (Laurel, Md.) posted the top time for the Retrievers, as UMBC concluded the regular season cross country schedule by competing in the Princeton Invitational.

 

UMBC competes at the America East Championships in two weeks at the University of Vermont.

 

For the fourth consecutive meet, a different Retriever runner led her teammates across the line. Ponton (Laurel, Md.) crossed in 24:13.7, besting the rest of her teammates for the first time in her UMBC tenure.

 

Senior Courtney Mattson (Prince Frederick, Md.) and sophomore Briana Roberts (Pennsauken, N.J.) also broke the 25-minutes mark, posting times of 24:31.8 and 24.35.4 respectively.

 

Mattson (Mount St. Mary's Dual 5k's), Roberts (Salty Dog Invitational) and sophomore Kaya Knake (Canton, Mich.) (Paul Short) were the other Retrievers to lead the squad in prior meets.
