STONY BROOK, N.Y. – UMBC women's basketball senior guard Raven Harris (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne/American) knocked down five-of-seven from beyond the arc en route to scoring a game-high 23 points to help the Retrievers hang on for a crucial 52-51 America East victory against Stony Brook on Wednesday afternoon at Pritchard Gym. Harris, UMBC's America East Player of the Game, added seven assists and five takeaways – to move into second place on UMBC's single-season steals list.

Senior forward Kim Browning (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) was a perfect four-for-four from the field, chipping in a career-high 10 points in the victory, while senior guard Kristin Coles (Charles Town, W.Va./Notre Dame Academy/American) added eight points, eight rebounds and four steals.

Despite Stony Brook taking its largest lead of the afternoon, 43-40, with 7:03 to go, a pair of free throws from Browning, followed by back-to-back treys from Harris, capped off a 6-0 UMBC run and gave the Retrievers an advantage it would not relinquish. Harris and Browning combined for 19 of the Retrievers' 24 second half points.

The Seawolves came within three twice during a 1:30 span, but the Browning-Harris connection linked up for a pair of layups to preserve UMBC's five point lead, 52-47, with 2:12 to go.

SBU made a final push with just under two minutes remaining, as senior forward Jessica Previlon grabbed an offensive rebound – one of 16 offensive boards for Stony Brook – off a Chikilra Goodman miss and found sophomore Sabre Proctor, who drew the foul down low on the Retrievers. Proctor drained her 10th and 11th points of the contest from the line to bring the Seawolves within three, 52-49 with 1:45 on the clock.

UMBC was unable to put the nail in the coffin, missing the front end of the bonus and Previlion responded with a layup with 1:21 left to cut the deficit to one. The Retrievers ran down the shot clock, but were unable to connect on the three, however, Coles was there for the offensive board – one of four offensive rebounds for the senior – to give UMBC possession with 40 seconds remaining. Despite Harris missing the runner with 12 seconds to go, Stony Brook failed to get off a good look at the basket. Previlion earned America East Player of the Game honors for the Seawolves, finishing with a career-high 18 points and adding seven rebounds.

The Retrievers (10-16, 6-7 AE) win their third-straight game – their longest win streak of the season – and pick up their fifth-straight 10-win season under head coach Phil Stern. UMBC completes the season sweep over Stony Brook (13-14, 5-9 AE) and are in sole possession of fourth place with three games remaining in league play.

Harris connected on her first two shots from the floor to open the contest with a 5-1 advantage for the Retrievers, but the Seawolves capped off an 8-2 run with back-to-back threes from junior guard Teasha Harris and senior guard Dani Klupenger to take its first and only lead of the first half at 9-7.

UMBC responded with a 12-2 spurt, including seven straight points from its bench – five coming from sophomore guard/forward Ashley Lambert (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) – to help the Retrievers to its largest lead of the stanza, 19-11, with 8:44 to go. Lambert finished with seven points off the bench for the black and gold.

A pair of offensive rebounds and put backs from Previlion, helped Stony Brook to score six of the final nine points of the half. Despite UMBC shooting 47.8 percent (11-23) in the period, the Seawolves trailed four points at the break, 28-24.

Previlion continued where she ended off the first, draining SBU's first two buckets of the second half and Goodman followed with her second steal of the game and the lay in to tie the contest at 30 with 16:10 to go. The Seawolves would take their first lead of the half minutes later following a pair of free throws from both Proctor and freshman forward Brittany Snow.

UMBC closes out the season on the road for two if its final three games, including a matchup at Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 23. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Case Gym.
