BALTIMORE – UMBC had three players
in double-figures, including a game-high 16 points off the bench
from sophomore guard Bria
White (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase/Longwood),
as the Retrievers concluded their five-game homestand with a 78-40
victory against Eastern in Sunday afternoon's non-conference
women's basketball game at the RAC Arena.
UMBC snapped a two-game skid to improve to 3-3 on the season,

Although Eastern got on the board first, it was UMBC that
exploded out of the gates, behind eight-straight points from senior
guard Brittany Crowell (Brandywine, Md./Gwynn
Park/James Madison). Crowell, who failed to connect on a field goal
in Tuesday's loss to Towson, connected on three of her first four
shots on the afternoon. Crowell would go on to finish with 12
points and a game-high nine rebounds.
UMBC's bench helped to provide a spark, delivering 14 first half
points, including nine from White. Freshman forward Liz
McNaughton (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) did her part to chip in,
draining a trey and pulling down five rebounds in eight minutes of
action. The Retrievers led by as many as 21,36-15, in the first
half, following a defensive rebound and transition layup from White
with 4:00 to go. A shot from beyond the arc from Eastern's
sophomore guard Gina DiDomenico – the Eagles sixth trey of
the half – gave the Retrievers a 40-23 advantage at the
break.
Eastern looked to make a run at the start of the second, as the
Eagles sunk back-to-back threes from DiDomenico and sophomore guard
Kaleigh Boreman, however a steal and layup from senior
guard Raven Harris (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess
Anne/American) ignited a 19-0 run from UMBC, giving the Retrievers
a 61-29 cushion with 10:21 remaining. Eastern would go on to score
four more buckets in the contest.
Harris and sophomore guard Lauren
Chase (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist) lit up the stat
sheets. Chase finished with 13 points, six rebounds, a career-high
five steals and four assists, while Harris chipped in eight points,
eight rebounds, five steals and four assists. McNaughton and
Lambert each added eight points in the winning effort.
Sophomore guard Kaitlyn Dougherty scored a team-high 12 points
for the Eagles on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor.
The Retrievers return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 27, when they
leave the friendly confines of the RAC Arena for the first time
since the season-opener on Nov. 9 and take on American. Tip-off is
scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bender Arena.
