BALTIMORE – UMBC sophomore
guard Bria White (Silver Spring, Md./Bethesda-Chevy
Chase/Longwood) drained a career-best 20 points, but the

29.1 percent from the floor, and fell, 62-44, to local rival Towson
in Tuesday night's non-conference women's basketball game at the
RAC Arena.
The Tigers had three players in double-digit points, including a
double-double from redshirt junior Nyree Williams, 22 points and
12rebounds, as UMBC dropped its second-straight and fell to 2-3 on
the year, while Towson won its second consecutive matchup against
the Retrievers and remain undefeated on the season at 3-0.

20.7 percent (6-for-29) from the field in the opening half and were

Following back-to-back baskets from sophomore
guard/forward Ashley Lambert (Fredericksburg,
Va./Riverbend), to bring the Retrievers within one at 15-14, with
10:20 to go in the first half, UMBC missed its next 13 shots from
the floor and received its only other point on a free throw from
freshman center Keri Kleist (Mason, Ohio/Sycamore) with
7:44 to go in the period. Towson finished the half on an 18-1 run
to take a 33-15 lead into the break.
The Retrievers shot out of the locker room, outscoring the
Tigers 11-4 in the first 2:41 – behind seven points from
White – to come within 11, 37-26. However, Towson weathered
the storm, jumping on the offensive glass and converting second
chance points to help preserve its lead. The Tigers held a 38-10
advantage with points in the paint and converted with 19 offensive
rebounds into 19 second chance points.
An 11-0 run by Towson's senior forward Michelle Pebbles and
sophomore forward Markell Smith put the game out of reach, 56-32,
with 8:16 to play. Pebbles finished with 10 points and Smith
chipped in nine.
Junior guard Tanisha McTiller was one rebound shy of a
double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
UMBC concludes its five-game homestand on Sunday, Nov. 25
against Eastern. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the RAC
