VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior Topé Obajolu (Randallstown, Md./Archbishop Carroll) scored ten points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, but the UMBC women's basketball team fell to Binghamton, 61-43, Thursday night at the Events Center.

The senior center has now recorded three double-doubles, the most by a Retriever this season.  Obajolu's two other double-doubles this year both came on the road, at Monmouth (20 pts, 10 reb) and at Hampton (10 pts, 10 reb).

Obajolu got the Retrievers (10-9, 4-2 America East) going early, scoring the game's opening bucket, to give UMBC its only lead at 2-0. Binghamton then took the lead on a layup by Viive Rebane, part of a 13-4 run, and never trailed again

From there, Binghamton (9-10, 3-3 America East) was led by the duo of Rebane and the Bearcat's America East Player of the Game, Andrea Holmes, who combined to score 38 of the team's 61 points.

UMBC trailed by as many as 13 in the first half, but was able to cut the lead to eight at halftime, following a jumper by junior Raven Harris (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne/American).  Harris finished with six points in the game. 

After the break, Binghamton came out of the locker room on a 7-2 run, to open a 36-23 lead.  The Retrievers hung around however, and cut the gap to just seven at 43-36, after a steal and fast break lay-in by junior Kristin Coles (Charles Town, W.Va./Notre Dame Academy/American).

UMBC would not get any closer however, as Binghamton closed out the win at home.

For the game, the Retrievers shot a season-worst 24.2 percent (15-for-62,) while the Bearcats hit 44.4 percent (20-for-45) of their shots.

The Retrievers return to action this weekend when they travel to Vermont on Sunday.  Tip-off from Burlington Is scheduled for 1 p.m.

GAME NOTES:

-           UMBC has won only once at Binghamton (Jan. 22, 2005), and is now 1-8 all-time against the Bearcats in Vestal, N.Y.

-          Obajolu's double-double is the eighth for the Retrievers this season

-          UMBC did not make a three-point basket for the first time this season.  The Retrievers went 0-for-14 from long range.  This is the first time they have not made a three in a game since shooting 0-for10 against West Virginia on Dec. 22, 2009.

-          Senior Michelle Kurowski (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) was named UMBC's America East Player of the Game.
