Michael Pesci (Parsippany, N.J./DePaul Catholic) hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot in the third, but the UMBC baseball team fell to Stony Brook, 8-4, in the finale of a three-game America East series. With the loss, the Retrievers fall to 4-23 (0-6 America East), while the Seawolves improve to 22-9 (6-1 AE).
Pesci's long ball to right-center field came after singles by freshmen Bryan Perlmutter (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) and Kevin Kean (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) to give the Retrievers a 3-2 lead, but were unable to keep the lead as Stony Brook scored in every inning from the fourth frame on.
Senior Austin Drewyer (Ellicott City, Md. /River Hill) threw a complete game in his third consecutive outing, but took loss, falling to 2-5.
Brandon McNitt earned the win for the Seawolves, allowing three runs in six innings of work.
Tanner Nivins led the Stony Brook bats with two hits and a home run.
The game was played at New York Tech due to renovations of Stony Brook's stadium.
The Retrievers return to action Tuesday evening when they host George Washington at 6 p.m.
