WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS FOURTH STRAIGHT--FALLS TO AMERICA EAST POWER HARTFORD, 78-52

—The University of Hartford (12-2, 4-0) remained perfect in America East Conference play as they hit 10 of 24 shots from behind the arc and defeated UMBC (8-7, 0-4), 78-52 before 1,255 fans. The Retrievers have now dropped four straight games.

Hartford never trailed as they bolted out to a 17-6 lead just 4:13 into the game. UMBC did not hit a three-point attempt (0/3) in the first half and trailed, 36-26, at intermission. The Retrievers rallied early in the second half and cut the deficit to 40-34 on a Sharri Rohde layup five mintues into the half. But the momentum swung back to Hartford as Brittnie Hughes was called for an offensive foul and the Retriever bench was charged with a technical foul with 13:30 remaining. Marylynne Schaefer hit both free throws and then buried a three-point goal which opened a 13-0 run to give the Hawks a comfortable 53-34 advantage with 10:50 remaining.

Rohde hit all seven of her attempts from the field and led the Retrievers with 14 points. Morgan Hatten added nine points off the bench and Amanda Robinson and Matea Pender tallied eight each.

Danielle Wexler led Hartford with a game-high 19 points. The Hawks hit 27 of 53 shots (50.9%) for the game and outrebounded UMBC, 34-27.

The Retrievers will play their eighth road game in nine outings when they travel to Maine for a noon date with the Black Bears next Saturday.
