Last time out, the Retrievers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eleventh inning, overcoming a deficit to defeat the Coppin State Eagles 9-8 on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.

First baseman Dylan Melton recorded two hits and walked twice, while third baseman Anthony Mascuilli reached base three times with a pair of walks and a double. Center fielder Jesiah Carpenter and right fielder Danny Orr (two doubles) contributed a pair of hits. Freshman right-hander reliever Kailen Hackmann struck out a career-high five batters in 3.1 innings of relief. Redshirt sophomore Ayden Gonzalez also pitched effectively, not allowing a run over 1.2 innings. Graduate student reliever Brady LeJeune-DeAcutis (inning, run, two strikeouts) earned his first win as a Retriever.

Coppin State took an early 1-0 lead in the first on catcher Armando Hurtado's RBI single to left. However, in the bottom of the first, the Retrievers (23-20) answered quickly with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. Melton scored on a wild pitch, and left fielder Danny Wyatt drove in Mascuilli with a groundout.

The Eagles (9-33) plated a pair in the second to regain the lead. Shortstop Emilio Feleciano produced an RBI single to center field, and Hurtado was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

UMBC regained control in the bottom of the second, staging a three-run rally for a 5-3 lead. Melton had a fielder's choice RBI, catcher Nico Ong scored on a wild pitch, and designated hitter Ehi Okojie singled in a run through the left side.

The Retrievers extended their lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth as Orr ripped a lead-off double and scored on a one-out sacrifice fly by shortstop Joe Lomangino (2 RBI's).

Coppin State mounted a two-out rally in the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits and an error to tie the score at 6-6. Milliner contributed a two-run single, and designated hitter Nelson Grajales scored following a throwing error on Milliner's stolen base.

Leading off the eighth, Lomangino drew a walk and advanced to second on a one-out single through the left side by Carpenter. Melton then followed with an RBI single through the left side on a 2-0 count, providing UMBC with a go-ahead run.

The Eagles, however, knotted the score once more when Hurtado (game-high three RBI's) drilled a one-out homer in the top of the ninth inning.

Coppin State seized the lead with a two-out RBI single by Angel Garcia in the top of the eleventh. However, UMBC responded with a decisive rally. Left fielder Luke Buscaglia singled and stole second, designated hitter Nolan Kutney walked, and Orr doubled to right to tie the game. Second baseman Brooks Henderson was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Lomangino then drew a walk on four pitches to force in the game-winning run, sealing UMBC's victory.
