Baseball Hits the Road for Three-Game America East Series at Defending Champion Binghamton

The UMBC Baseball team returns to America East play as it travels to defending champion Binghamton for a weekend series.

Last time out, Jesiah Carpenter had a pair of hits, but UMBC (16-11, 5-1 AE) dropped an 11-0 (7) decision to visiting Maryland on Tuesday.

Carpenter had the lone extra base hit for the Retrievers, via a fifth inning double. Danny Orr, Derek Paris and Nolan Kutney all singled, while Ehi Okojie and Zach Hampton both drew walks for UMBC in the contest. 

Bennett Speicher pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief for the Dawgs, striking out one batter and not allowing a hit.

Scouting Binghamton:

Last time out, Binghamton (14-13, 6-3 America East) made quick work of Siena (9-19, 5-10 MAAC) on Wednesday, as the Bearcats defeated the Saints 11-1 in seven innings at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.
 
Binghamton scored all 11 of its runs in the first four innings, allowing the Bearcats to extend their winning streak to four games. Andrew Heppner led Binghamton with a career-high three runs batted in thanks to a three-run home run he hit in the fourth inning. It was Heppner's second home run in three games. Zack Kent, Steven Kraus and Tommy Popoff each drove in two runs for the Bearcats. Making his first appearance on the mound this season, Colin Rhein was credited with the win for Binghamton after he struck out one batter in two scoreless innings of work. With the victory, Binghamton has won eight of its last 10 games dating back to March 21.
