Baseball Begins America East Play By Hosting Maine

BALTIMORE -- The UMBC Baseball team will begin the America East portion of play by hosting Maine for a three-game set this weekend at Alumni Field. 

Probable Starters:

G1 (Friday, 3:00 p.m.): Eddie Sargent LHP | 0-2, 5.95 ERA, 11 K, 19.2 IP    
       vs Jason Krieger RHP | 0-3, 7.18 ERA, 16 K, 12 BB, 26.1 IP

G2 (Saturday, 2:30 p.m.): Zach Robinson RHP | 2-0, 3.63 ERA, 18 K, 6 BB, 22.1 IP
        vs Vaun Larisa RHP | 0-2, 6.28 ERA, 11 K, 6 BB, 14.1 IP

G3 (Sunday, 1:00 p.m.): Brady LeJeune-DeAcutis LHP | 0-3, 3.98 ERA, 15 K, 10 BB, 23.1 IP
        vs  Gianni Gambardella RHP | 1-3, 7.61 ERA, 13 K, 11 BB, 23.2 IP

Last time out, UMBC fell 4-3 in 10 innings in the series finale at Florida Atlantic on Sunday.

The Dawgs, who out-hit the hosts 12-7, took a 1-0 lead in the first on a Danny Wyatt RBI single. The lead became 2-0 in the third on a Danny Orr RBI double that would plate Wyatt. The Owls trimmed the deficit in half to 2-1 in the bottom of the third, but Carver Salazar homered in the fourth to make it 3-1. After FAU again cut the lead to one in the bottom of the fourth, it remained 3-2 all the way until the eighth. The hosts scored an unearned run after an error and then would walk-off in the bottom of the 10th.

Orr, Wyatt, Ehi Okojie and Derek Paris all had two hit games, while Salazar, Jesiah CarpenterAnthony Mascuilli and Dylan Melton all had a hit. 

LeJeune-DeAcutis had his best start of the season, going 7.0 innings, striking out three and allowing just one earned run on three hits.

Okojie's impressive week at the plate earned him America East Player of the Week honors, the Conference announced on Tuesday morning. 

The senior outfielder slashed .400/.750/1.250 with a home run 10 RBI, 4 doubles, a walk and zero strikeouts in 20 at bats. He also stole a base and scored

Scouting Maine (2-17):

The Black Bears, who have hit the 44th most home runs in the NCAA through the first five weeks with 29, a number that is 16 home runs higher than the second place spot in the America East. Maine has an individual near the top of almost every single offensive category in the America East as a result of their strong start to the season at the plate. Carpenter leads the league with 20 RBI while Juju Stevens leads the conference with eight home runs. Stevens also leads the America East with a 1.131 OPS and is tied with Brody Rasmussen for fourth place in the conference with five doubles.

Maine drove in 89 runs over the first 19 games. Stevens, Quinn Murphy and Shane Andrus all hit north of .300 while four Black Bears had double-digit RBI totals.
