Swimming & Diving Set for Two Day Meet with George Washington; Host Senior Day Saturday, Travel to D.C. Sunday

The UMBC Swimming & Diving will continue its preparation for the America East Championships next month as it takes on George Washington in a two day, home-and-home meet. The Retrievers will welcome GW to campus for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., before making the return trip to D.C. on Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

Saturday's senior ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on AmericaEast.TV.

Last Friday, the Men's Swimming & Diving team returned to the pool in style, defeating host La Salle 178-121, while the Women's side saw tons of success in its first action since early December.

Kolby Reese had a strong day as she won the 500 free in 5:16.05 and took second in the 1000 free when out-touched a La Salle swimmer by .04 (10:50.82). Bruna de Padua won the 1000 free in 10:39.41, while Ashley Gutshall took first in the 50 free in 24.48. Makaela Hill won the 100 free in 52.95, Gutshall took second in 54.24.

The 400 free relay team of de Padua, Gutshall, Hill and Claire Oettinger took home gold in 3:33.71

On the diving side, Alicia Buteau placed second in the 1 meter (241.80), Ember Stennett finished second in the 3 meter with a score of 248.10.

For the Men, Nick Zaharescu won the 1000 in 9:57.79, Christian Castro took second in exactly 10:00.00. Boris Milev (1:42.70) and Andrew McEachern (1:43.86) went 1-2 in the 200 free.

UMBC took the top three spots in the 200 fly as Marko Kovacic won in 1:54.03, followed by Max Casey-Bolanos (1:58.47) and Axel Mori (2:06.52). Milev then won the 100 free in 47.05. Max Trias (2:12.96), James Tao (2:13.78) and Matthew Johnson (2:15.10) followed by finishing 1-2-3 in the 200 breaststroke. 

McEachern (4:47.60), Castro (4:54.13) and Brendan Hanlon (5:01.81) then swept the podium in the 500 free, while Trias (1:59.88), Tao (2:02.28) and Zaharescu (2:04.59) were the top three in the 200 IM.

Isaac Poole continued to dominate the diving portion as he won both the 1 meter (298.88) and 3 meter (288.63)

Kaleb Cave (256.50) and Grant Moore (248.10) took third and fourth, respectively, in the 1 meter, while Anders Logas (253.35) and Andy Vines (243.68) went 3-4 in the 3 meter.
