After a 5-0 week, the UMBC Baseball team swept the America East weekly awards, the Conference announced on Tuesday morning.Â
Danny Wyatt was named both the Player and Rookie of the Week, whileÂ
Luke Johnson earned the Pitcher of the Week nod.
Wyatt slashed .529/1.059/1.615 in four games, going 9-for-17 with two homers, 10 RBI, eight runs scored and three doubles. The freshman catcher was also 1-for-1 on stolen base attempts, while throwing out the only runner who attempted to steal a base on him.Â
Johnson was masterful in a complete-game shutout of America East preseason favorite Binghamton. The senior struck out nine, walked one and allowed just two hits. He also retired the final 14 Bearcats to close out the 2-0 win.Â
On Tuesday, UMBC rallied from an early four-run deficit to defeat visiting Coppin State, 21-8, on Tuesday to extend its winning streak to eight games.
The Retrievers found themselves down 6-2 in the third, and then 7-4 in the fourth, but rattled off 17 straight runs to pull away.
Chris Ho picked up the win in relief for UMBC (10-11, 3-0 AE), whileÂ
Dawson Baracani,Â
Matt Ryan,Â
Anthony Swenda and Wyatt all drove in three runs in the win.
Justin Taylor scored four runs and made five plate appearances, but did not record a single at bat as he walked three times and was hit by a pitch twice.
The 21 runs were the most UMBC scored in a game since a 20-8 win against Delaware State on 3/6/21.
