Baseball Drops 7-3 Decision at Bryant

Box Score Smithfield, R.I. -- Justin Taylor (Reston, Va.) and Tony Krueger (Appleton, Wisc.) each had three hits, while Luke Trythall (Poolesville, Md.) drove in a pair, but the UMBC Baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to host Bryant on Saturday afternoon.

Bryant broke open a scoreless tie with a three-run fifth inning and never looked back. UMBC cut the deficit to 4-1 in the eighth on a Dawson Baracani (Sammamish, Wash.) sacrifice fly that scored Taylor.

After the Bulldogs added three in the bottom half of the eighth, the Retrievers fought back in the ninth with two runs on a two-RBI double by Trythall, but they couldn't get any closer.

Jayden Shertel (Mays Landing, N.J.) pitched five strong innings, allowing just the three runs, while striking out seven and walking just two.

Trythall had a pair of hits, while Ian Diaz (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Matt Ryan (Bethesda, Md.) each singled for the Retrievers

The teams will play the rubber match of the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
