Men's Track and Field Secures Seven Medals at Towson Invitational

The Retrievers also posted six personal bests in the meet.

 
TOWSON, Md. – The UMBC men's track and field program broke six personal-records (tied one) and secured seven medals, two golds, three silvers, and two bronzes at the Towson Invitational.
 
UMBC Overview:
 
  • Iosif Papa continues to build an impressive resume early, as the freshman won the discus with a toss of 51.83m.
  • Nicolas Alphonse joined Papa in the "winner's circle", coming in first in the 400 hurdles at 53.92 while also placing fourth in the 110 hurdles in a time of 14.75. His time in the hurdles is more than a second faster than Maine's Conner Michaud for the top spot amongst America East competitors.
  • Ibrahim Khairat earned a second place finish in the triple jump (14.35m).
  • Two others snatched the silver, including Will Sakowicz's 10:11.73 in the 3,000m steeplechase as well as Marquis Miller's 49.10-second 400m.
  • Seun Olajide was one of two bronze winners, PR'ing in the 100m (10.83) while Alexander Ianniello recorded his best height during the pole vault (4.20m).
  • Michael Arnold netted a pair of fourth place allotments, one in the 400m (49.26 - PR) and another in the 400 hurdles (55.20).
  • Jayo Adegboyo rounded out the PR / top-eight combinations thanks to seventh with a time of 49.73 at the 400m.
  • Capping the scoring were Baraka Sila (5th in 5,000m - 15:44.16), Donovan Young (5th in triple jump - 14.00m), Toren Burr (6th in hammer throw (48.25m), and Aiden Walker (8th in shot put - 12.49m).
  • Other Retrievers that set new low times on the track were Sharwin Vyapouri in the 110 hurdles (16.37), Roger Wright in the 100 meters (10.98), and James Munlyn Jr. in the 400 meters (51.57).
 
Next:
  • The Black and Gold will head just south of the nation's capital next weekend for the Dalton Ebanks Invitational hosted by George Mason University.
