Baseball Heads to Lowell for Three-Game Series with River Hawks

Myles Nicholson enters the series ranked 15th nationally with a .429 batting mark

The UMBC baseball team (12-15, 4-5 America East) will try to rebound for a  tough home weekend when they travel to UMass Lowell (9-16, 3-6 AE) to take on the River Hawks in an America East Conference weekend series. Friday's game at Lelacheur Park starts at 6:00 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday contests begin at 1:00 p.m.

A Glance at the Retrievers
  • UMBC could not keep Maine's powerful bats in check and the Retrievers dropped all three games in last weekend's series.
  • Sporting a .429 mark, graduate student second baseman Myles Nicholson is the lone America East hitter with a batting average over .400 and is ranked 15th nationally through games of April 6. He leads the league with 48 hits (tied 12th nationally) and 29 runs scored.
  • Junior catcher Tony Krueger has 11 hits in his last 22 at-bats and is now 11th in the conference with a .333 batting mark.
  • Sophomore shortstop Drew Roberts has hit in eight of his last nine games and has multiple hits in his six of those eight games. He is 16th in the league in batting average at .322.

A Glance At The River Hawks

  • UMass Lowell is 9-16 overall and 3-6 in the America East Conference entering play this weekend.
  • The River Hawks have only played four home games to date, winning two of three from Binghamton on March 25-27 and drubbing Dartmouth, 14-2 most recently on April 5.
  • UML is hitting .264 as a team and has stolen 56 bases in 65 attempts. Their staff ERA is 6.10.
  • Robert Gallagher is the leading hitter with a .372 average (third in America East) and is 21-for-21 in stolen bases. Jacob Humphrey comes into the series at .310 and has not been thrown out in 15 stolen base attempts.
