- Sophomore hurler Luke Johnson struck out eight Highlanders through five innings, but left with the game still knotted at 2-all.
- In the seventh, Taylor got a one-out single to right field, which chased Nicholson around from second base. After Krueger walked to load the bases, Cilio pinch hit for Jayden Shertel and hit a towering blast to left center field, clearing the bases and putting the Retrievers ahead, 7-2.
- NJIT scored a run in their half of the seventh, but Taylor equalized that with a one-hop ground rule double over the right-centerfield wall to score Matt Ryan.
